Foreword by Editor-in-Chief 序言

The exploration and development of oil and gas resources have been the key research topics and associated with national energy and political security. With the rapid economic development in China, the demand for energy and the investment in oil and gas research have been increasing. China has made great breakthroughs in the exploration and development of oil and gas, and the research achievements provide a reference for global petroleum enterprises and research institutes to jointly promote the sustainable development of petroleum industry. 

Since 2014, the core journals of oil and gas, such as Petroleum Drilling Techniques, China Petroleum Exploration and Oil Geophysical Prospecting, have been selected for the Journal Translation Project (JTP, http://jtp.cnki.net/bilingual). As of 2020, 333 articles from these journals have been included in JTP and published in both Chinese and English, which has enhanced the international influence of these journals. To further promote the international exchange of China’s academic achievements in oil and gas research and the international dissemination of these journals, China National Knowledge Infrastructure selects 52 excellent articles to compile a book with the English version of these articles. The book involves the important achievements in oil and gas exploration and development in China, reflecting the scientific and technological innovations and contributing to the dissemination of these achievements and the promotion of academic exchange. 

This book introduces the important and latest research achievements of oil and gas exploration in China, including four chapters: (1) progress in oil and gas exploration and development in China, (2) geophysical exploration of oil and gas, (3) reservoir analysis and reservoir formation research, and (4) oil and gas drilling technology. Relevant studies are supported by National Science and Technology Major Project of China, National Key Basic Research Program of China, National Natural Science Foundation of China and research projects of China National Petroleum Corporation and China Petrochemical Corporation. The authors are affiliated with major petroleum enterprises such as CNPC and Sinopec Group, as well as key petroleum universities such as China University of Petroleum, China University of Geosciences, Southwest Petroleum University and Yangtze University. These articles represent the current research on the exploration and development of oil and gas in China. The publication of this book will promote the development and international academic exchange of theories and technologies in petroleum geophysical prospecting, oil-gas field development and petroleum engineering. This book can be used as a reference for teachers and students majoring in geophysics, petroleum engineering and petroleum geology in universities and institutes.
