Foreword by Editor-in-Chief 序言

Along with the advancement of science and technology, the requirements for material properties have been continuously raised, and the development and application of composites have received worldwide attention. Composites are prepared by optimization and integration of the advantageous properties of different materials using advanced manufacturing technologies. The research depth, application range, and production development speed/scale of composites have become an important measure of science and technology advancement in a country. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the global market of composites has grown rapidly, especially in China as well as other Asian countries.

Since 2014, Journal of Inorganic Materials, Journal of Aeronautical Materials, Chinese Journal of Energetic Materials, Iron Steel Vanadium Titanium, etc. have successively joined the Journal Translation Project (JTP, http://jtp.cnki.net/bilingual). By 2020, 3 462 articles from these journals have been selected into JTP and published in both Chinese and English, which enhances the international influence of these journals. To further promote the international exchange of academic achievements in composites in China and the international dissemination of these journals, 71 excellent articles on composite research in China were selected to represent the latest research findings on composites obtained by well-known materials science experts and institutions in China. The book contains three sections and provides a detailed introduction of the latest research and development achievements in the basic properties, preparation processes, and applications of polymer matrix composites, metal matrix composites, and inorganic non-metal matrix composites in China, which represent the advanced level of science and technology in China. This book is a compilation of the English version of the articles originally published in Chinese, and can be used as a reference for teachers and students in materials science and composites, and those engaged in composite research, development, production, sales, and investment worldwide.

Composites play a crucial role in the advancement of modern science and technology, and are indispensable in the development of modern high technology. As the editor-in-chief of this book, I hope this book can provide new ideas and methods for the research, design, production, and application of composites around the world. We are ready to work with the colleagues in material industry worldwide to jointly promote the development and technological innovation in the composite industry, and to expand the global influence of composites.
